Admission Requirements
General Notes
- Applicants must be Canadian citizens or Canadian Permanent Residents.
- There are two main classes of applicants:
- SWOMEN Applicants
- Non-SWOMEN Applicants
- SWOMEN applicants must have attended high school in the Grey, Bruce, Huron, Perth, Oxford, Middlesex, Lambton, Chatham-Kent, Elgin, Norfolk or Essex Counties regions.
- Conditional admission if the minimum GPA has been attained in one previous year and based on the applicant achieving the minimum GPA in the present year of study.
- Applicants may apply to all six Ontario medical schools on one application form available through OMSAS (http://www.ouac.on.ca/omsas/ )

Criteria
Required Classes
- Applicants must be in a four-year honours level program.
- Note: Honours means enough senior courses have been completed to allow entry into a graduate program; it does not require a research project
- Applicants must have completed 20 full-year courses by the end of the academic year.
- Three full higher-level classes (2nd year or higher) must be taken in at least one of the two years used in the GPA cut-off calculation.
GPA
- Only the years where five full courses have been taken will be considered
- If more than five classes have been taken, only the best five grades will be used in the GPA calculation.
- The minimum GPA must be met in both of the two years used in the average.
- Classes taken during part years of studies (ie.if it took applicant � semester extra to complete degree) will not be included in GPA
- Repeated courses are not allowed and not considered
- Summer courses are not counted in the overall GPA calculation.

MCAT
- The MCAT must be written before the application deadline.
- Only the most recent scores will be used.
- Only scores within the last 5 years are valid.
- MCAT cutoffs vary with each year and applicant pool

- Official Transcripts: official final transcripts from all universities attended.

- Personal Essay
- Applicant must explain how their personal and academic background has prepared them for medical studies at UWO.
- Maximum of 300 words and double-spaced.
- 3 letters of reference
Deadlines
- Sept 15, 2007: Deadline to have registered on OMSAS
- October 2: OMSAS application due
- May 15, 2007: Admission offers sent by mail

- 147 applicants were admitted in 2006 to 2007.
- Admission statistics for the 2006 to 2007 cycle for SWOMEN (SW) non-SWOMEN (nSW) applicants were:
