Admission Requirements

General Notes

  • Apply through AMCAS website
  • 90% of accepted applicants are from Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, or Idaho
  • Only considers applicants that are US citizens or Permanent US residents
  • Offers the MD/PhD (MSTP) degree granting program

Criteria

Required Classes

  • 2 semesters 8 credits Biology(general biology, genetics, microbiology, physiology, zoology, or anatomy.)
  • 2 semesters 8 credits Chemistry(inorganic, organic, or biochemistry.)
  • 2 semesters 8 credits Physics
  • 2 semesters 8 credits biology, chemistry, or physics which can be met by taking other courses in any of the above broad categories. Molecular Biology can only count toward additional course credits.
    • The following courses are recommended, but not required:
      • Ethics
      • Anatomy or Comparative Anatomy
      • Human or Mammalian Physiology
      • Embryology
  • A broad background in both sciences and humanities is encouraged

GPA

  • A weighted 3.5 is competitive
  • In 2007, candidates offered positions had an average of 3.69
  • Weighted GPA:
    • Where A = U0 GPA
    • Where B = (U1 GPA) x 2
    • Where C = (U2 GPA) x 3
      • Then weighted GPA = (A+B+C)/6

MCAT

  • A 9 average is competitive
  • In 2007, candidates offered positions had an average of:
    • Verbal = 10.5
    • Physical Sciences = 10.7
    • Biological Sciences = 11.1
    • Writing sample = Q
