Admission statistics

  • Approximate number of applicants per year: 1500
  • Approximate number of applicants interviewed: 500
  • A minimum of 82% of spaces are offered to Utah residents or Utah high school, college, or university graduates.
  • International students are eligible to apply only if:
    • Significant ties to Utah such as lived in Utah for 3 consecutive months.
    • Graduated from a Utah college or university (must have attended for at least 2 years) or high school.

Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: A Bachelor’s degree
  • Required Courses
    • Physics with lab: 2 semesters
    • Organic Chemistry with lab: 2 semesters
    • General Chemistry with lab: 2 semesters
    • Biology: 2 semesters
      • One course must be Cellular Biology or Biochemistry
    • Social Science: 1 semester
    • Humanities: 1 semester
    • Writing/Speech: 1 semesters
    • Diversity: 1 semester
      • This course must call attention to current events of a non-dominant population group in the United States.

  • Minimum: 3.2 out of 4.0 in both science and non-science courses
    • 3.2 after 2014
  • Average accepted GPA :3.67

MCAT

  • Minimum scores:7 for each section
  • Average scores: 10 for each section
  • MCAT must have been written within 3 years of application deadline and cannot be done after September of the application year.
  • If it has been written more than once, the university selects the best score on each section.

  • Applicants must submit an Activities Form that shows their involvement in a variety of activities/experiences

Interview

  • Interviews occur on campus and are conducted by physicians, investigators, administrators or community representatives.
  • Interviews are by invitation only.
  • Three interviews lasting 30-45 minutes each.
