Other Requirements
- Applicants must submit an Activities Form that shows their involvement in a variety of activities/experiences described below:
- 1. Extracurricular Activities (sports, church, volunteering, etc.)
- Minimum Requirement: Some activities
- Average Applicant: 20 hours/week during the 4 years before applying to Medicine
- 2. Community/Volunteer Service
- Minimum Requirement: 36 hours
- Average Applicant: 48 hours during the 4 years before applying to Medicine
- 3. Leadership (such as positions in community organizations, tutoring, mentoring, etc.)
- Minimum Requirement: One experience for a duration of 3 months during the 4 years before applying to Medicine
- Average Applicant: Three different experiences for a duration of 3 months during the 4 years before applying to Medicine
- 4. Research (must be supervised by a person with research qualifications and cannot be part of a class. Graduate research is acceptable though.)
- Minimum Requirement: 4 hours/week for a duration of 2 months (32 hours)
- Average Applicant: 4 hours/week for a duration of 3 months (48 hours)
- 5. Physician Shadowing (must be done with an allopathic (MD) or osteopathic (DO) physician. It cannot be done with medical residents, physician assistants, podiatrists, veterinarians, nurses, EMT’s, PhD’s, etc.)
- Minimum Requirement: 8 hours
- Average Applicant: 24 hours
- 6. Patient Exposure (direct interaction with patients, but patients cannot be relatives and the requirement cannot include indirect patient care like cleaning operating rooms. In addition, physician shadowing cannot be counted towards the Patient Exposure requirement.)
- Minimum Requirement: 4 hours/week for a duration of 2 months (32 hours)
- Average Applicant: 4 hours/week for a duration of 3 months (48 hours)
- Satisfactory Criminal Background Check
- Pass a Drug Test
- Be covered by Health Insurance
- Recent Physical Examination record

Interview
- Interviews occur on campus and are conducted by physicians, investigators, administrators or community representatives. The interview seeks to understand the applicant’s goals, motivations, awareness of the medical profession, etc.
- The interview lasts 30-45 minutes.
