  • Application Form: available online at www.usask.ca/medicine/admissions. Can be submitted in paper form or electronically.

Admission Requirements

General Notes

  • 64 students accepted each year: a maximum of 6 (10%) out of province applicants.
  • Three main classes of applicants:
    • Saskatchewan Applicants
    • Out of province Applicants
    • Aboriginal Applicants
  • Applicants must have completed two years of university education.
  • Accepted applicants must show proof of having a Standard First Aid certificate before starting their studies.

Criteria

Required Classes

  • Biology: one full year (BIOL 111/112)
  • Chemistry: one full year (CHEM 110/120)
  • Organic Chemistry: one half year (CHEM 212)
  • Physics: one full year (PHYS 101/102 or PHYS 131/142)
  • English: one full year (both courses must cover literature and composition)
  • Biochemistry: one full year (BIOL 200 or BIOC 312 and BIOC 311)
  • Humanities/Social Sciences: one full year
    • All prerequisites must be completed by April 30, 2008.

GPA

  • Saskatchewan residents must have a two year minimum average of 78% (3.3+)
  • Out of province residents must have a two-year minimum average of 80% (3.7+)
  • An overall average of 70% (3.0) in the prerequisite courses is required.
  • If an applicant has an overall prerequisite average lower than 70%, higher-level courses in the same subject can be taken.
  • Only the best two years are considered.
  • Courses taken during the summer are not included in the GPA average.
  • Current year of study is not included in the overall average.

MCAT

  • The MCAT is an admission requirement and must be written before the application deadline.
  • Minimum acceptable scores are:
    • Sciences: 8
    • Verbal Reasoning: 8
    • Writing Skills: N
      • Note: One score of 7 or one M will be accepted.

Supporting Documents

  • Application Fee: $125 sent by mail or with online application.
  • Official final transcripts from all universities attended.
  • Reference Letters: 3 letters are required.
    • Three letters of reference testifying the applicant�s character are required.
    • Undergraduate/Graduate/Research supervisors are acceptable references.
    • Family members and friends are not acceptable references.
    • Forms are forwarded to applicants when granted an interview.

Deadlines

  • Sept 1, 2007: Applications available online and in paper format.
  • Dec 1, 2007 (12:00PM): Deadline for applications submitted
  • February 2008: Interview invitations sent.
  • March 2008: Interviews
  • End of March 2008: Deadline for receipt of reference letters.
  • May 15, 2008: Notification of application status.

Tuition

  • Estimated expenses are:
    • $17 677 for the first year including books, tuition and student fees.

Statistics

  • Approximately 200 Saskatchewan and 350 out of province applications are received.
  • Average for two years of studies for out of province students typically 88-90%.
  • Admission statistics for the 2006-7 cycle were:
    • Mean average = 90.51%
    • Mean interview score = 20
    • MCAT scores:
      • Biological Sciences = 10.33
      • Physical Sciences = 9.88
      • Verbal Reasoning = 9.30
      • Writing Sample = M to S
  • Total applicants = 531 (200 Sask, 331 out of province)
  • Total interviews = 191 (162 Sask, 29 out of province)
