Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: three years of full-time studies (15 credits) in any degree leading to a bachelor’s degree
  • Required Courses
    • General Biology with lab (the equivalent of one full year course)
    • Humanities or Social Sciences (the equivalent of one full year course) – Note: Second language courses are not recognized as these
      • Psychology will be accepted in this category
    • The equivalent of two full year courses in any of the following:
      • General Biochemistry without lab
      • General Chemistry with lab
      • Organic Chemistry with lab
    • Note – AP Credits will NOT be recognized

GPA

  • Every year, a minimum WGPA (weighted grade point average) is set for current pool
  • The required minimum WGPA varies among a list of categories available at the more information link below; it is based on geographical area as well as the background of the applicant
  • GPA is weighted according to the years of study completed at the time of registration as well as the year of study
    • If applying during 3rd year: (1st year gpa * 1 + 2nd year gpa * 2 ) / 3 = WGPA
    • If applying during 4th year: (1st year gpa * 1 + 2nd year gpa * 2 + 3rd year gpa * 3) / 6 = WGPA

MCAT

  • The MCAT is NOT required – Applicant’s academic record will be scrutinized that much more closely
  • MCAT results will not be supportive in the application

  • Application is made through OMSAS here
  • Autobiographical sketch - including formal education, employment, volunteer activities, extracurricular activities, awards and accomplishments, research history
  • 3 letters of recommendation
  • Additional documents required are listed in the OMSAS application

Interview

  • Usually held in March
  • Will be invited based on the minimum WGPA set for the year for the particular pool in addition to assessment of autobiographical sketch

  • Mid-July 2012: OMSAS application opens
  • September 15, 2012: deadline to create OMSAS account
  • October 1, 2012: deadline to submit application
  • February - March: interviews are held
  • May 14, 2013: first date for offers of admission
