Admission Requirements

General Notes

  • Students are accepted from all over Canada.
  • Applicants must be Canadian citizens or have permanent resident status.
  • International applicants are not considered.

Criteria

Required classes

  • A bachelor degree from a recognized university
  • 6 credits in biochemistry equivalent to University of Manitoba's BIOC 2360 and 2370 courses.
  • At least 18 credits in humanities or social science courses.

GPA

  • Minimum 3.6 out of 4.5 or equivalent.
  • Most students who are accepted have a 3.8.

MCAT

  • Must be written by September before the academic year of entry and no earlier than 4 years before the academic year of entry.
  • Applicants must have obtained the following minimum scores:
    • 7 for PS, BS, and Verbal
    • An M is required for the written sample.
    • The written sample score will be converted, so that T = 14 and M = 7.
  • A minimum operative score of 8 required.

Supporting Documents

  • A formal application form must be completed.
  • 2 copies of the applicant's cumulative grades are required. This includes high school, CEGEP, and university grades.
  • If applicants meet the minimum MCAT requirement, 3 letters of reference from referees who know the applicant very well are required.

Deadlines

  • Deadline for application form and application fee ($90) is October 9 this year.

Tuition

  • Tuition (per session) is approximately $7000. Books and other required supplies are approximately $3500.
  • Financial aid and scholarships are available to students.

Statistics

  • In 2006, 956 applications were received, while only 100 spots where available.
  • Approximately 10% of spots are given to applicants from outside of Manitoba.
