Program Information

  • MD Degree
  • 4 years in length
  • Bilingual (French/English) Stream
  • MD/PhD program
  • Number of applications in 2008: 874
  • Enrolled in 2012: 110 (5% of spots reserved for out-of-province applicants, approximately 10% enrolled)
  • 3 main applicant pools: Manitoba, out of province and Aboriginal students
  • The University of Manitoba restricts MD enrolment to Canadian citizens and Permanent residents only.
    International student applications are not accepted.

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university
  • Required Courses
    • Biochemistry (6 credit hours)
    • Humanities/Social sciences (18 credit hours), accepted courses click here

GPA

  • Adjusted Grade Point Average (AGPA) system
    • Minimum: 3.30 (4.5 scale), 4.0 for out-of-province who were enrolled
    • Mean 2012 AGPA: 4.1 (all), 4.4 (out-of-province)
  • Calculation method:
    • Depending on the number of credit hours completed a corresponding number of credit hours are dropped from the calculation
    • Biochemistry requirement is included
    • All summer and part-time courses included
    • Graduate level courses not included

MCAT

No earlier than April 2009 and no later than September 11, 2012

  • Minimum scores:
    • Physical Sciences – 7
    • Biological Sciences – 7
    • Verbal Reasoning – 7
    • Writing Sample – M
  • Conversion Method
    • Writing sample scale: T=14, M=7
    • .3(VR) + .2(PS) + .3(BS) + .2(WS) = operative MCAT score
  • Average MCAT score 2008: 10.9, 12.1 (Out-of-Province)
