Admission Statistics

  • Class size in 2017: 3300 applications for a class of 211.
  • Of the 2700 non-resident applicants, approximately 160 were interviewed, 40 accepted, and 27 matriculated.

Admission Requirements

  • Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of United States; Priority given to Kansas residents
  • Applicants also are expected to possess a general understanding of healthcare and medicine based upon shadowing, volunteer, and/or employment experiences

  • Degree: A four-year Bachelor's Degree in any discipline at an accredited institution.
  • Required Courses
    • General Biology (with lab) - 2 semesters
    • Inorganic (General) Chemistry (with lab) - 2 semesters
    • Organic chemistry (with lab) - 2 semesters
    • Physics (with lab) - 2 semesters
    • English composition or writing-intensive courses - 2 semesters

GPA

  • Minimum: 3.5 for early decision and MD/PhD; no specific minimum score for regular decision
  • Typical Undergraduate GPA: 3.79

MCAT

  • For the 2018 entering class, only scores from the "new" MCAT2015 taken in 2015, 2016 or 2017 will be accepted. Scores from the January 2015 "old" MCAT exam may not be used. The latest MCAT test date accepted for Early Decision Program applicants is June 30, 2017, and the latest test date accepted for regular decision applicants is September 9, 2017.

  • $50 non-refundable non-resident application fee
  • Letters of Recommendation
    • 3-5 letters are required (5 letters is strongly recommended)
    • Letters are requested from a variety of sources: faculty, employers, supervisors, or other objective evaluators who know you well.
    • Sources are submitted to AMCAS and the letters will be received via the application.

Interview

  • Select applicants will be invited to a personal interview through email about three weeks prior to the interview date.
  • The interviews are conducted by one or two members of the interviewer panel
  • The interview day consists of:
    • 2 thirty minute interviews
    • A presentation on financial aid
    • Discussion of the curriculum and student life
    • Lunch and a campus tour with current medical students.
  • Interviews are conducted in Kansas City on the following dates:
    • September 12-15, 2017
    • October 2-6, 2017
    • November 13-16, 2017
    • November 27-28, 2017
    • January 10-12, 2018
    • January 29-February 1, 2018

  • August 1, 2017: Last date to submit AMCAS application for EDP (July 1 strongly encouraged)
  • August 15, 2017: EDP(Early Decision Pending) file completion deadline
  • Mid-September 2017: EDP interviews
  • October 1, 2017: EDP notification
  • October 15, 2017: Last date to submit AMCAS application for regular decision (September 1 strongly encouraged)
  • October 2017 - February 2018: Regular decision interviews
  • November 15, 2017: Deadline for completion of regular decision and MD/PhD application files
