Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: Baccalaureate degree must be obtained prior to anticipated enrolment
  • Required Courses
    • General biological sciences or equivalent + lab (2 courses)
    • General inorganic chemistry or equivalent + lab (2 courses)
    • Organic chemistry + lab (2 courses) - Note: One course of introductory biochemistry may substitute for the second organic chemistry.
    • General physics + lab (2 courses)
    • Advanced-level biology (must be at least a 200 level course -1 course)
    • Behavorial/social sciences (Psychology, Anthropology,or Sociology) (3 courses): 2 out 3 must be from same field of study

  • No specific requirements
  • Mean GPA for 2013 class: 3.6

  • No more than 3 years old.
  • Average MCAT score in 2013: 31

Supporting Documents

Evaulation

  • Cumulative grade point average considering degree program and MCAT score are considered to assess academic achievement for each applicant.
  • In addition to the overall academic record, the Committee considers personal characteristics, such as motivation and communication skills. Students are selected who demonstrate emotional stability, maturity, integrity, and the passion necessary for the successful study and practice of medicine.
  • The Committee also seeks to identify those applicants who will contribute academic, nonacademic, and socioeconomic diversity/heterogeneity to the entering class.
