Admission Requirements
General Notes
- 125 candidates admitted each year; 85% reserved for Alberta residents
- Non-Albertans who meet the min GPA (see below) are ranked using an algorithm regression, based on the GPA of the two best years and the verbal and bio MCAT scores
- This formula is: 62.517*(GPA)+12.122*(MCAT, Verbal Reasoning)+6.757*(MCAT, Biological Sciences).
Criteria
Recommended classes
The following courses are recommended, but not absolutely required:
- Two semesters of biology.
- Two semesters of chemistry
- Two semesters of physics
- Two semesters of English.
- One semester of psychology, sociology, OR anthropology
- One semester of calculus OR statistics.
- Two semesters of biochemistry
- Two semesters of physiology.

GPA
- For Alberta residents: 3.20/4.00 (average of the best two full-time years)
- For non-Alberta residents: 3.60/4.00 (average of the best two full-time years)
- Full-time study is considered to be a minimum of eight half-courses from September-April

The Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT)
- MCAT must be taken no later than the fall of the calendar year before the year of entry
- Accepting scores from since 1991
- No cut-off minimum, but the average scores of students admitted last year were 11-11-Q-12 (see Statistics below for more info)
- The committee gives the MCAT a value out of 15 on your application, based on the results in each category. All non-Albertan applicants' MCAT results are also used to rank them.

Supporting Documents
- 3 Letters of references: Referees must complete their references online; an e-mail will be sent directly to the references through the web site.
- List of activities: volunteer, extracurriculars, employment
- Must include dates, brief description and employer's contact.
- Essay: How could the application process to medical school and the medical profession be improved?

Deadlines
- October 15th (11:59 pm MST): Application due.
- Includes transcripts, reference letters, MCAT scores and the application fee.
- February 1st: Interviews invitations sent online.
- Interview dates; Sat. Feb. 23, Sun. Feb. 24, and Sat. Mar. ?
- May 15th: First offers sent out by email.
- You have 15 business days to reply.
- June 30th: Final transcripts must be received.

Tuition
- For 2007/2008, tuition is $13,210 plus general fees of $534.16
- Book and instruments cost $3,360 in first year, then $2,100 in years two and three.
- Other costs to consider are memberships in various medical students' associations.
