Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: Minimum 2 full years of undergraduate study

(60 units of course weight - 10 full-course equivalents). Of this, 30 units of course weight - five full-course equivalents - must be taken during one academic year. An academic year is September 1 to April 30 inclusive. A full academic year consists of at least 18 units of course weight completed per academic year.

(Courses taken during the spring/summer sessions counts, but are not included in cumulative GPA calculation or full-time study requirement)

    • General Chemistry (6 credits)
      • AP credit can be used to receive 3 credits. IB (HL chemistry) can be used to receive 3 credits
    • Organic Chemistry (6 credits)
    • Biology (6 credits)
      • AP credit can be used to receive 3 credits. IB (HL biology) can be used to receive 3 credits
    • Physics (6 credits)
      • AP credit (grades 4 or 5) will meet 6 credit requirement. IB (HL physics) will meet 6 credit requirement. SL physics will meet 3 credits of requirement
    • English (6 credits)
      • IB (HL english) will meet the requirement
    • Statistics (3 credits)
      • AP statistics will meet the requirement (grades 4 or 5)
    • Biochemistry (3 credits)

  • Minimum: 3.3 (4.0 scale) for Albertan residents, 3.5 for non-Albertan residents, and 3.7 for two and three year applicants
  • Mean Cumulative GPA
    • 4-year applicants: 3.8
    • 2&3-year applicants: 3.95
  • Mean Prerequisite GPA
    • 4-year applicants: 3.77
    • 2&3-year applicants: 3.94
  • Calculation method:
    • GPA will be calculated using all transferable post-secondary study done while registered as a full-time student
    • If applying after completion of four years of full-time study, the cumulative GPA is calculated with the deletion of the lowest year GPA, provided it is not the most recent completed year

  • Multi Mini Interviews: the interviewee will be exposed without interruption to a series of 8 separate stations each of which will take 10 minutes to complete.

Timeline

  • Jul. 2, 2010: Admissions application for the class beginning in August 2010 will be available
  • Nov. 1, 2010: Deadline for initial application; supporting documents due: official transcripts, reference letters and MCAT results
  • Feb. 1, 2010: Two official transcripts with the results of first semester due
  • Mar. 19-20, 2011: Interviews
  • May 15, 2011: Results of the admission process will be sent to all interviewed applicants
  • Jun. 15, 2011: Final transcripts of current year due
