Course and Degree Requirements

Quebec University Candidates
  • Degree: Either one of the following:
    • Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) in Sciences, Letters and Arts
    • DEC in Health or Pure and Applied Science and have completed Biology 00XU and Chemistry 00XV
    • Any other DEC issued by the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS) and the following courses:
      • Biology 301 and 401, or 2 human biology courses
      • Chemistry 101, 201 and 202
      • Math 103 and 203
      • Physics 101, 201 and 301
    • Obtained or in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 12 university credits before the application deadline.
      • Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in a medical or health science-related field can enter the 4-year program.
      • Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in a field unrelated to medical or health sciences must enter the preparatory year prior to the 4-year program.
        • As an example, the following programs from l’Université de Montréal are considered equivalent to the preparatory year (other programs may be deemed equivalent by the Admissions Committee):
  1. Bachelor’s in Audiology
  2. Bachelor’s in Biochemistry
  3. Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences (depending on the chosen orientation)
  4. Bachelor’s in Biomedical Sciences
  5. Bachelor’s in Biopharmaceutical sciences (sciences biopharmaceutiques)
  6. Bachelor’s in Nutrition
  7. Bachelor’s in Occupational Therapy
  8. Bachelor’s in Orthophony

    • An aboriginal candidate from Quebec does not need to declare him/herself as a First Nations/Inuit member and apply as a CEGEP or Quebec university candidate although his/her chances would be diminished due to the large number of applicants with respect to the number of available places in the other candidate categories.

  • Applicants with a PhD may be required to send in a Curriculum Vitae (CV) if asked by the Faculty.
  • Applicants that are Doctors (MD) who completed a diploma outside of Canada or the United States must send an attestation of successful completion of the Evaluating Examination from the Medical Council of Canada within the last 5 years.   • For all students:
    • Be a Canadian citizen or have a status as a permanent resident by the application deadline.
    • Be a resident of Quebec by the application deadline.
    • All candidates must make an application for the preparatory year MD program. Depending on the applicant’s academic profile, the Admissions Committee decides if a candidacy will be considered for the preparatory year or the first year in the 4-year program.
    • The student, once in Medicine, must prove that he/she received the required immunizations and was submitted to a tuberculosis screening. For more information, click here
  • For specific individuals:
    • Canadian candidates outside of Quebec must be a francophone resident from New-Brunswick, Nova-Scotia and Prince Edward Island – provinces that have made an agreement with the Government of Quebec. Other provinces do not have a similar agreement unless, under exceptional circumstances, Canadian candidates have completed postsecondary studies considered equivalent to a DEC or to a Quebec diploma of university studies can be admitted if there are available places.
    • Candidates of the Canadian Forces have to identify themselves as a member of the Canadian Forces when applying. They must also be on the list of people that the Selection Committee of the Canadian Forces is ready to subsidize the applicant for the year in which he or she applied.
    • Outsider candidates need a student visa.
