Program Information

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD)
  • 4 years in length
  • Class size in 2008: 100
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or a landed immigrant by application deadline

Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: Minimum 3 years of undergraduate study in Canada (any discipline)
  • Required Courses
    • Biological Sciences (6 credits)
    • Physical Sciences (6 credits)
    • Social Sciences, Humanities or Languages (6 credits)

GPA

  • Minimum: 3.7 (4.0 scale)
  • Calculation method:
    • GPA will be based by first considering the cGPA for all years of undergraduate studies. However, if applicants do not meet this cut-off, the two most recent years will be considered.

MCAT

  • Minimum scores:
    • Physical Sciences – 10
    • Biological Sciences – 10
    • Verbal Reasoning – 10
    • Writing Sample – Q
  • Even though there is no restriction to the number of times a student has written the MCAT, all scores must be declared to OMSAS.
  • Only the best test results will be taken into consideration
  • In the 2008/2009 application cycle, the cut-off score for Writing Sample was R.

Interview

  • Late February – early March
  • Interviews are conducted at the School of Medicine by a member of the Faculty, a community member and a current medical student
  • Interview itself is around 30 minutes

  • Mid June, 2008: OMSAS application becomes available online
  • Sept. 15, 2008: Deadline to create OMSAS account
  • Oct. 1, 2008: Deadline to submit applications
  • Oct. 1, 2008: All transcripts and academic documents must be received by OMSAS
  • Oct. 6, 2008: All cheques/money orders must be received
  • Oct. 15, 2008: Deadline for MCAT scores to be released to OMSAS
  • May 15, 2009: First offers of admission
  • June 12, 2009: Deadline to accept offers of admission
  • June 30, 2009: All transcripts must be received by OMSAS
