Program Information

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD): 4 years in length

Admission Requirements

  • Application must be submitted to AMCAS between June 1 and December 15 prior to the year of entry.
  • Upon receipt of the AMCAS applicant information, NYMC will email a login and password to access the secondary online application. All applicants who receive a secondary application must completed it online by January 31.


Course and Degree Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Canada or U.S is recommended.
  • No preference for a major field of undergraduate study, but the credits submitted must include chemistry, physics, biology and English with substantial laboratory work.
  • Required Courses:
    • General Biology, 2 semesters or equivalent, with labs
    • Inorganic or General Chemistry, 2 semesters or equivalent, with labs
    • Organic Chemistry, 2 semesters or equivalent, with labs (one semester of Biochemistry with lab may be substituted for second semester organic chemistry or its equivalent).
    • Physics, 2 semesters or equivalent, with labs
    • English, 2 semesters or equivalent (or successful completion of the English requirements of your undergraduate institution’s requirement for graduation).

GPA

  • No minimum required GPA.

MCAT

  • Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) score that was taken less than 3 years before the application must be submitted.
  • No minimum required MCAT.

Supporting Documents

  • Letters of evaluation with official letterhead must be submitted directly to AMCAS before January 31.
  • One letter of evaluation from premedical committee; If none present,3 letters of evaluation from undergraduate professors including at least two from science courses (biology, chemistry, physics, biomedical engineering or bioengineering) that have taught the applicant or have supervised independent research.
    • One letter of evaluation must be from the department in which the applicant majored.
  • Employment references, personal references, and references from volunteer work are not a substitute for academic references but can be submitted as supplements to the required references.
  • If the applicant have attended graduate school, a letter from a faculty member in the applicant's department major in addition to the undergraduate letters described above is required.

Interview

  • After the application is complete, the NYMC invites, for personal interview, those applicants under serious consideration.
  • Interviews are generally conducted from October through April. The interview day program runs from 8:00 am to 1:15 pm.
  • Applicants have one or two interviews. The second interviewer is frequently a fourth-year medical student. All interviewers are members of the Committee on Admissions.
