Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: Minimum 3 years of undergraduate study with at least 30 completed credits
  • There are no required courses
  • Exposure to basic sciences as well as the social sciences and humanities, is recommended

GPA

  • Minimum: 3.0 (4.0 scale) according to OMSAS conversion
  • Average accepted GPA in 2013: 3.84
  • Calculation Method: according to OMSAS conversion table

MCAT

  • MCAT must have been written within 5 years of application deadline and scores must be released to OMSAS by Nov 1st of application year
  • Pre-April 2015 - only Verbal Reasoning score will be considered (minimum score of 6)
  • new MCAT - only Critical Analysis and Reasoning section will be considered (minimum score of 123)
  • Most recent test result will be used

CASPer

  • CASPer will be offered Sept 17, Oct 15 and Oct 25, 2017
  • Applicants must finalize and submit application to OMSAS in order to obtain the OMSAS reference number to register for a CASPer test
  • All applicants are required to complete CASPer annually, a web-based assessment of interpersonal skills and decision-making

Supporting Documents

  • OMSAS Application
    • Opens in early July, must be begun by Sept 15 and submitted in early October
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended sent directly to OMSAS
  • Non-Canadian and non-US grades need to undergo a credentialing assessment, to convert them into Ontario educational equivalents
  • Three reference letters are needed (completed by referee on-line - check [www.ouac.on.ca/guide/omsas-referees/ here]
    • Reference letters are due Oct 1st, however McMaster will accept late letters up to Dec 1st, when referees are unable to meet the deadline, without penalty to the applicatn
  • Proof of English Proficiency is required for applicants whose first language is not English.
  • Students enrolled in a graduate program must provide a letter from their Supervisor (or member of their Supervisory Committee or Chair of the Department) indicating they are aware the applicant is intending to apply to medical school
