Program Information

  • M.D. (MDCM)
    • 4 years in length
  • M.D. & Ph.D. (MD-PhD)
    • 7 years in length
    • For students interested in a research career in academic medicine.
  • M.D. & M.B.A. (MD-MBA)
    • 5 years in length
    • Prepares graduating physicians for leadership positions in the health care sector.
  • Average of 175 students admitted annually.

Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: Undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree in any discipline from a recognized college or university, 120 credits minimum.
  • Average credit load of 15 credits throughout each regular session.
  • Basic science course requirements at university level with laboratory or practical work
    • General Biology with labs(6 credits)
    • General/Physical Chemistry with labs (6 credits)
    • General Physics with labs (6 credits)
    • Introductory Organic Chemistry with labs (3 credits)
    • Advanced placement credits may be accepted at the discretion of the admissions office.
  • Recommended Courses
    • Biochemistry
    • Cell and/or Molecular Biology
    • Statistics
  • MD-MBA extra requirements
    • Recommended mathematics and computer/database management background, as well as basic business administration or management courses (not required).
  • MD-PhD
    • Recommended research experience such as master’s degree, honour’s research project, or summer research.
    • Acceptance conditional on acceptance into a program of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies

GPA

  • Recommended minimum: 3.5 (4.0 scale)
  • Average accepted CGPA generally 3.83
  • Roughly two thirds of admitted students have a GPA between 3.67 and 3.98.

MCAT

  • Competitive applicants are expected to have a minimum overall score of 30
  • MCAT must have been written within 5 years of application deadline
  • Note: Effective September 1, 2010, applicants who are eligible for the Quebec category and who have or are in the process of
    obtaining an undergraduate degree from a Quebec university will be exempt from the MCAT application requirement.

    • Canadian citizen or permanent resident recognized as a resident of the Quebec
    • Canadian citizen or permanent resident not recognized as a resident of Quebec (Out-of-province)
    • International citizen, including anyone not holding Canadian citizenship or residency
    • Sufficient proof is required for proof of Quebec residency
  • Distribution of seats
    • International citizens: maximum of 9 positions
    • Out-of-province Canadians: approximately 8 positions
    • Residents of Quebec with university degree: approximately 75 positions
    • Residents of Quebec, CEGEP: approximately 80 positions
    • First Nations and Inuit Students: maximum of 2 positions
