Evaluation criteria
- Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement and potential as well as appropriate intellectual personal and social traits.
- Applicants must demonstrate an interest in solving the problems associated with health disparities and should have experience working or volunteering with underserved communities.
- Applicants should have competitive grades and MCAT scores. (i.e., Science GPA of 3.0 and a total MCAT of 22 or better.)

Interview
- Interview invitations will be sent out between September 2013 through April 2014 ,
- Interview dates for 2013-2014: usually on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
- Type of interview: at least one 30–45 minute interview with member of faculty.
- A typical interview day will include presentations detailing the HUCM curriculum and financial aid, a tour, a lunch and a question and answer session with students.

Timeline 2013-2014
- Mid-August through December 15: Invitations to complete HUCM Secondary Application are sent by email to Verified Applicants.
- September through April: Interviews are scheduled.
- December 15 Deadline: AMCAS Application.
- January 15 Deadline: Deadline for submitting HUCM secondary
- March 15: Interim Email is sent to students who have not been invited to Interview.
- Late Spring (after May 15): Final status email to all verified applicants who did not interview
- Mid-July:Orientation begins.
