Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: Minimum 3 years of college or university study in any domain except for Military Science, Physical Education and similar courses.
    • Preference is given to individuals who have completed a Bachelor’s degree if all other admission aspects are given equal consideration. Note that in 2009, all accepted candidates had a Bachelor’s degree, as seen here.
  • Required Courses
    • Biology with lab (6 credits)
    • Inorganic Chemistry with lab (6 credits)
    • Organic Chemistry with lab (6 credits)
    • Physics with lab (6 credits)
    • English, with emphasis on composition (6 credits)
  • Recommended Courses
    • Biochemistry (3 credits)
    • Genetics (3 credits)
    • Molecular Biology (3 credits)
    • Human Anatomy
    • Physiology
    • Spanish
    • Courses involving critical thinking, reading skills and reading comprehension
  • Up to 27 hours of AP, CLEP and/or P/F credits are accepted.

  • Minimum: There is no cut-off limit set by the University, except for the Early Decision Program which requires the following:
    • Science GPA: 3.7
    • Cumulative GPA (CGPA): 3.7
  • Median Undergraduate Accepted GPA 2009: 3.72
  • Median Undergraduate Science GPA 2009: 3.68
  • Median Graduate Science GPA 2009: 3.73

  • Minimum scores: There are no cut-off limits set by the University, except for the Early Decision Program which requires the following:
    • Physical Sciences – 10
    • Biological Sciences – 10
    • Verbal Reasoning – 10

  • For entry into 2011, the MCAT must have been completed before January 2009.
  • MCAT should be done in the spring of the year before application.

  • Letters of Recommendation using either of the following 2 options
  1. If the applicant’s institution has a Pre-Health Committee, then it can send a Committee Letter that fulfills the requirement of recommendation letters.
  2. If there is no Pre-Health Committee, 3 letters must be sent:
  • 2 letters from science professors, or 1 from a science professor and 1 from a pre-medical/pre-health advisor. The letters must be from professors in the following departments:
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Mathematics
  • Engineering
  • Exercise Science
  • 1 letter from a non-science professor. The letter must be from a professor from a department not listed above, such as:
  • Accounting
  • Economics
  • Foreign Languages
  • History
  • Sociology
  • Theology
  • Letters cannot be written by athletic coaches
  • Letters may be accepted from Graduate Teaching Assistants if signed by the TA and the Course Coordinator.
  • Extra letters may be sent such as from shadowed physicians.
  • Application Fee $ 95.00

  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutes attended

  • May 15, 2014: Program withdrawal deadline to receive a deposit refund
  • July 15, 2014: Deadline to send final official transcripts with the degree earned stated and deadline to submit to the Background Check
