Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: At least three years of study toward a baccalaureate degree
    • Required courses must be completed prior to matriculation
  • Required Courses
    • Biological Sciences + Lab (6 Credits)
    • General Chemistry + Lab (8 Credits)
    • Organic Chemistry + Lab (8 Credits)
      • One semester of Biochemistry may substitute the 2nd semester of Organic Chemistry
    • Physics + Lab (8 Credits)
    • College-Level Mathematics (6 Credits) (Statistics and Computer Science are acceptable)
    • English (6 Credits)
  • Recommended Courses
    • Molecular or cell biology, neuroscience, genetics or human physiology

  • Secondary Application
    • Applicants will be sent a link to the Secondary Application once the receipt of the AMCAS application has been received
    • AMCAS deadline is November 1
    • All secondary applications must be received by February 15
    • Secondary Application fee of $120.00
    • Letters of recommendation may be one of the following choices:
      • letter of recommendation by the Pre-Professional Advisory committee
      • Two letters of recommendation
        • One letter from a faculty member in the applicant’s major
        • A second letter from a different science faculty member
        • Applicants are encouraged to submit 1 or 2 letters of recommendation from someone with whom they have worked closely (faculty, research mentors, volunteer directors, or employers)
  • Applicants who have completed all of their pre-medical requirements prior to 5 years at the time of application must show evidence of participation in either academic or work experience in the biological sciences
    • Upload your photo (125px x 160px) with your secondary application

Interview

  • Approximately 1100 applicants interviewed
  • The interview usually lasts between 30 minutes and an hour and is conducted by a clinician or scientist.
  • Interviews can be conducted in Queens, Manhattan, or the Bronx, though applicants are encouraged to come to the College of Medicine (Bronx) and attend a noontime luncheon and a tour
