Program Information
Curriculum
- Doctor of Medicine (MD)
- 4 years in length
- NOTE: only accepts applicants who have a Canadian citizenship or are a permanent resident of Canada.
- The curriculum is studied as follows:
- Year 1 and Year 2: Divided into organ system blocks.
- Year 3: Placed in a standard six main rotation as well as elective experience.
- Year 4: Further rotations provide opportunity to explore several sub-specialties.

Quota Positions
- The university reserves up to 10 positions per year for applicants who qualify as an Albertan Rural applicant.
- The university reserves up to 5 positions per year for applicants who qualify as an Indigenous applicant.

Admission Requirements
Course and Degree Requirements
- Must be registered in or completed a baccalaureate degree program and obtain degree prior to admission
- Minimum of 60 transferable units of course weight (ucw)
- Must be registered in or completed one academic year (September 1st through April 30th) with a full course load; 30 units of course weight which is equivalent to 10 half year courses.

cGPA
- Minimum: 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale) for Albertan residents, 3.50 for non-Albertan residents, and 3.7 for second and third-year applicants
- Mean Cumulative GPA 2015
- 4-year applicants: 3.90
- 2&3-year applicants: 3.97
- Calculation method:
- cGPA will be calculated using all transferable post-secondary coursework to which a letter grade was assigned while registered as a full-time student.
- For those applicants who have completed three or more academic years of transferable post-secondary coursework, the lowest academic year will be excluded from calculation provided that it is not the most recent year, nor the year in which the applicant earned the 30 units of course weight.

MCAT
For September 2018 Admission, the MCAT scores must be released and verified by the secondary application by the October 1st 2017 deadline.
To comply to this deadline, the MCAT must be taken by August 25th 2017.
As well, the university will only accept MCAT scores from January 2015 and later.
- Minimum scores:
- Alberta applicants: 124 in each category
- Non-alberta applicants: 128 in Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills, and 124 in each of the other three category
- The best MCAT scores in one sitting will be considered

Two Reference Letters
- The applicant must submit the contact information to the Secondary Medicine Application of their references, which will then be contacted through email and prompted to submit the reference letters electronically.
- References can be previous or current coaches, employers, leaders of committees the applicant was involved with, professors, or even supervisors.
- The admissions committee will NOT accept references who have family or friend relations to the applicant.

Additional Testing
- Once the Secondary Medicine Application has been completed and submitted as well as the applicant meets all academic requirements, they must also complete the additional testing.
- Online assessment (CASPer) provided by Altus Assessments which can be found by here

- October 15th 2017 at 2pm or 5pm EST
- October 25th 2017 at 5pm or 8pm EST

Timeline 2017-2018
- July 18, 2017: Application for fall 2018 opens
- October 1, 2017: Deadline for initial application, secondary application and supporting documents, verification of MCAT results and submitting official transcripts
- February 1, 2018: Updated official transcripts must be processed by the Registrar
- Early to mid February: Interview invitations sent out
- March 17 & 18, 2018: Interview Weekend
- Early to mid May: Results of the admission process will be sent to all interviewed applicants
- May 15, 2018: All offers of admission will be sent out to accepted applicants by this date
- June 15, 2018: Final transcripts of current year due; TOEFL/TSE score due
- End of August: Orientation week
