Admission
General Notes
- Four year program leading to an MBBS, equivalent to an MD
- For 2009, 300 places were reserved for domestic students (defined as a citizen/permanent resident of Australia or a citizen of New Zealand), with up to 100 places remaining for international students
- Program emphasizes communication skills , the development of learning approaches, and ethics along with a knowledge of clinical, biological and social sciences
Criteria
Degree
- Must have completed a degree at an accredited institution equivalent to an Australian Bachelor’s Degree
- Most recent degree or post-graduate program must have been completed within 10 years of their entry into the medical program
- No preference is given to any particular degree
Required Classes
- there are no specifically required classes
GPA
- Minimum for 2009 is a 2.67 on a 4 point scale (with 2 being a pass)
- GPA is not considered when ranking applicants, except as a tie-breaker
MCAT
- Only international students may apply for admission with an MCAT score; domestic students must write the GAMSAT
- Minimum scores required for interview consideration
- Verbal reasoning – 8
- Physical sciences – 8
- Biological sciences – 8
- Writing – M
- Test must be taken within two years prior to admission
Additional Requirements
- Students who did not complete their key degree in English must pass the International English Language Testing System with a minimum score of 6.0 in written band and 7.0 in verbal band
- TOEFL is not accepted

- Must have a valid and approved national Senior First Aid Certificate (including CPR)

Deadlines
- Forms for application through ACER are made available mid-may
- ACER closing date for domestic students is in mid-June
- ACER closing date for international students is in late June
- UQ recommends that international students apply early, as admission is conducted on a continuous basis until all available places have been filled
Tuition
- Domestic tuition (commonwealth supported) is approximately $8170 per year
- International tuition is approximately $43 600 (AUD) per year
Other
- 2009 will be the first year of Ipswitch program, where 40 students will be selected to study at the Ipswitch campus for years 1 and 2, with the smaller group allowing for “novel” teaching techniques
