  • 4 years in length
    • Applicants with a PhD in biomedical/preclinical sciences may be eligible for a 3-year program.

Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: Minimum of 90 hours of college credit
  • Required Courses
    • A minimum of 1 semester of general chemistry with lab
    • A minimum of 1 semester of organic chemistry with lab
    • A minimum of 1 semester of biochemistry (lab optional)
    • One year of biology with lab; a course in cell and/or molecular biology is strongly recommended
    • One year of college English or a university writing course
    • One year of physics with lab
    • One semester of calculus plus one semester of an additional college-level math, statistics or biostatistics are strongly recommended
      • The above required courses must be successfully completed within seven years before starting the Medicine program.
  • All applicants must also have taken the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), administered by:
    • American College Testing Programs and Services PO Box 414 Iowa City, Iowa 52240

GPA

  • The University does not have a cut-off GPA available, although median GPA scores of accepted students are available for 2008:
    • Overall GPA median: 3.85
    • Science GPA Median: 3.84

Other Requirements

  • The candidate, within 30 days of being accepted into the program, must prove that he/she received the required immunizations. A Student Health Immunization Form and Report of Medical History must be completed before beginning the program.

  • Some abilities are required by students entering into the program, such as observation, communication, motor, intellectual and emotional skills. These range from performing certain laboratory procedures to interacting positively with all kinds of people.

Interview

  • Date: Mid-September to mid-February.
  • Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) will be our official interview format replacing traditional one-on-one interviews
  • Applicants will arrive at the appropriate time for their MMI Group and check-in for the day with the Office of Admissions. Breakfast will be served and there will be an orientation covering the schedule for the day. Applicants will have a tour of the medical school and short presentations by the Office of Financial Aid and the Office of Curriculum. All groups will gather together for lunch at noon and break apart after lunch according to the activities for each designated group.

  • June 29th, 2013 transmission begins
  • July 2nd, 2013: Duke med application opens
  • October 15th: Submission AMCA deadline
  • Dec 1st, 2013: Duke submission deadline
  • Second Monday in September – February 15, 2011: Interview date (one day is selected among this period)

Tuition 2009-2010

  • Total first year cost: $ 73,311
    • Tuition: $ 44,4826

    • Application fee for each additional school: $30
    • Continuation of Research Study fee: $ 50 per semester – optional; it is only for students who disrupt their studies to do research
  • Students in the MD/PhD (Medical Scientist Training Program) receive a $ 26,000 stipend per year.
  • Students in the MD/MA program are also required to pay one year of tuition to the Graduate school.
  • Students in the MD/JD program must also pay 3 years of tuition for Law school.
