Admission Requirements
Course and Degree Requirements
- Degree: A minimum of 3 years of undergraduate study, with one year being from an accredited 4-year American institution. However, the recommended amount is 4 years of undergraduate study.
- Required Courses:
- Biology (6 credits) -- except for Botany and Biochemistry
- General Chemistry (6 credits) -- Biochemistry is acceptable
- Organic Chemistry (6 credits)
- Physics (6 credits)
- Math (6 credits) -- the only courses considered are Calculus, Statistics and Computer Science
- UCSD does not require any laboratory coursework.
- UCSD does not require English coursework
- All required courses must be passed with at least a grade of "C".
- AP credit (with scores of 4 or 5) may exempt the applicant from:
- 6 credits of Math
- 3 credits of Physics
- 3 credits of General Chemistry

Interview
- Occurs late September - end of March
- The day begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m.
- Two interview day consists of:
- 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. Orientation with the Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs.
- 9:00 - 12:00 p.m. Each applicant will have two interviews with individual members of the Recruitment and Admissions Committee.
- 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. As a group, the applicants will have a tour of the campus and lunch with medical students.
- 1:30 - 2:00 p.m. Meeting with the Director of Student Life, wrap-up with Director of Admissions
- 40% of applicants receiving interviews are offered admission

Timeline
- June 1: Applicants may start sending AMCAS application
- Mid-July - December: Applicants may start sending Secondary application documents
- October 15: First notifications of acceptance are sent out
- November 1: AMCAS application deadline
- December: Deadline to submit Secondary application documents
- Late September to March: Interviews
- Approximately 4 weeks after their interview date, applicants will be notified of the admissions decision
