Admissions Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Four-year undergraduate degree
  • Required courses are:
    • Human/Vertebrate Physiology (6 credits)
      • Neither plant physiology nor animal/plant physiology courses will be accepted
      • A list of approved courses can be found here
    • Life/Physical Sciences excluding Physiology (6 credits)
    • Social Sciences, Humanities or Languages (6 credits)
      • Psychology may count for Life Science or Social Science credits
    • Statistics or Research Methods (3 credits)
  • Information on weight of McGill courses at UofT can be found here
  • All courses must have been completed no earlier than September 2004 and no later than May 29, 2011
  • These courses will not count in your GPA unless they were completed within your last 60 credits.
  • Requirements must be completed prior to June 29, 2011

Work and Volunteer Experience

  • Volunteer and work experience should be written in your experience profile
    • The file for this is found in the ORPAS application package)

GPA

  • Cutoff: mid-B average (74.5% or 3.3) based on the last 60 credits completed as of December 31 of the application cycle.
    • Admissions will calculate GPA starting with final fall grades, and count backwards from there based on the chronological order indicated on the applicant's transcript.
    • If the last few courses needed to fulfill the 60-credit total do not comprise an entire semester (e.g. 3 out of 5 courses of 2nd year Winter), the average of the entire year is taken.
  • Includes all summer, part-time, distance, and failed courses - even after the four-year degree is completed.
  • Does not include S/U courses, practicums, activity-type courses
  • Graduate students will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis; minimum B (3.0) on all graduate courses.

TOEFL

  • Minimum scores:
    • Paper-based: 600
    • Internet-based: 100/120 and 22/30 on the writing and speaking sections
    • Computer-based: 250 with 5 on the essay and 50 on the TSE
  • Must have been completed within the last two years
  • Scores must be received no later than March 1, 2013

Other Requirements

  • A Computer Administered Profile must be completed on April 1, 2013
    • Only top applicants will be invited
  • If a religious observance falls on that date, you may take it on April 24, 2013
    • A written request for this is required
  • The CAP is a two-hour exam consisting of short answer and long answer questions
  • CAP scores count for 40% of your admission score; GPA counts for the other 60%

Residency Requirements

  • Must be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
  • Credit equivalencies from non-Canadian will be evaluated only during the application process

Interview

  • There is no interview

Documentation

  • Statement indicating completion of 50 hours volunteering or working (paid) with individuals who are struggling at a cognitive or physical level.
    • Form available as a PDF file in the ORPAS application package
  • Two reference letters
    • ORPAS has R1 and R2 forms online for this very purpose
    • One must be an academic reference, the other must be the individual/organization under whom you worked to attain the 50 hours of experience
  • Incomplete applications will not be processed.

Deadlines

  • Applications must be submitted through ORPAS by January 11, 2013
    • Also applies for reference forms
  • Application fee is $270 plus $90 for every university choice after the first.
  • ORPAS transcript processing fee is $12 per transcript. Transcripts must be received by January 11, 2013.
  • Transcripts must come directly from the school.

Other facts/Notes

  • Upon admission, the following are required:
    • Basic Rescuer First Aid and CPR must be taken between August 1, 2013 and the start of the Fall semester, regardless of when your certification expires
    • Immunization record
