Admissions Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

Requirements for Master's degree in Occupational Therapy Msc (OT) or Physiotherapy MSc (PT)

  • graduating from a 4-year baccalaureate degree in any university discipline (120 units/credits); none are favoured:
    • A minimum average of B+ or 77% or 3.3/4 or 9/12, calculated over the last 60 units of your university course work.
  • graduated from a 3-year baccalaureate degree (90 units/credits):
    • 3-year baccalaureate degree (90 units/credits)
    • plus an additional 30 units/credits to now total 120 units/credits in all
    • 18 units/credits must be at the fourth-year level or above.
    • A minimum average of B+ or 77% or 3.3/4 or 9/12, calculated over the last 60 units of your university course work.

In addition to the above requirements, the MSc (PT) admission prerequisites are (all must have a grade of 3.3/4.0 or B+ or 77% or 9/12 or higher):

  • One 1/2 credit (3 units) human anatomy course
  • One 1/2 credit (3 units) human physiology course OR one full credit (6 units) human anatomy and physiology course
  • One 1/2 credit (3 units) statistics course
  • One 1/2 credit (3 units) humanities course

Selection Process

  • MSc. in OT - Approximately, the 300 top-ranked applicants are invited for the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI)
  • MSc. in PT - All applicants with 3.3/4.0 or B+ or 77% or 9/12 GPA will be invited to participate in an online interview
  • Applicants will be ranked on a combination of their pre admission sub-GPA (25% of final ranking) and their interview scores (75% of final ranking)

Timeline 2015-2016

  • October 18, 2018 - ORPAS online application opens
  • October 25, 2018 - Open House, FHS Graduate Studies, McMaster University Student Centre, 11:00am to 1:00pm
  • January 8, 2019 - Last day to submit an application and non-refundable ORPAS service and institutional fees to ORPAS
  • January 30, 2019 - Deadline to submit transcripts from all universities the applicant attached to ORPAS
  • Mid-February 2019 - Program will confirm with applicant that they are eligible to complete the Kira Online Interview
  • May 17, 2019 - Admission decisions will be emailed to applicants using email submitted in ORPAS online application
  • May 31, 2019 - First-round offers expire
  • June 7, 2019 - Provisional acceptances become firm acceptances
  • June 30, 2019 - Deadline to submit payment of $500 non-refundable deposit; ORPAS must receive final transcripts
  • July 31, 2019 - Deadline to submit transcripts to ORPAS, with confirmation that degree has been conferred (if applicable); program fees, police check, vulnerable screening, and CPR documents due
  • August 26-30, 2019 - Orientation Week --> mandatory for students to attend

Interview

  • Approximately the top 300 ranked applicants are invited for a personal interview.
  • Applicants invited to be interviewed are notified approximately 3 weeks in advance of their interview.
  • Applicants who are interviewed are ranked on a combination of their pre admission sub-GPA (25% of final ranking) and their interview scores (75% of final ranking) to determine the final ranking for offers of admission.
  • Approximately 65 students are admitted to each of the OT and PT programs. The final approval of applicants for admission will be granted by the Associate Dean, School of Graduate Studies.
