Program Information

• Master of Science in Physical Therapy (MScPT)
  • 30 month long
  • Course-based
  • Approximately 110 students per year
  • Selection Basis
    • Preference given to residents of Alberta (minimum 15% allocated for out-of-province students)
    • GPA in the most recent 60 credits prior to February of the admission year
    • Weight distribution: 50% Interview (MMI), 45% GPA and 5% Anatomy Course grade

  • Thesis-based
  • Duration: 2 to 4 years
  • Designed for students from backgrounds in rehabilitation medicine and related areas
• Doctor of Philosophy in Rehabilitation Science (PhD)

• MScPT:
  • 4-year bachelor’s degree from academic institution recognized by University of Alberta
  • baccalaureate degree may be in any field of study
  • Required Courses:
    • English (3 credits)
    • Statistics (3 credits)
    • Psychology (6 credits)
    • Humanities/Social Science (3 credits)
    • Human Anatomy (3 credits)
    • Human Physiology (6 credits)
    • Human Movement (3 credits)
    • Canadian Indigenous History
• MScRS:
  • bachelor’s degree or equivalent or a previous graduate degree in a rehabilitation discipline or related area from academic institution recognized by University of Alberta

  • Master's degree or honours BSc degree in rehabilitation discipline or related area

GPA

• Minimum GPA: 3.0 on 4.0 scale
• MScPT Competitive GPA:
  • greater than 3.6 for Alberta applicants
  • greater than 3.9 for others

Work and Volunteer Requirements

• A minimum of 30 hours of volunteer or paid work completed within the last few years before application
  • Work must include interactions with persons with disabilities
  • The student's primary work supervisor must complete a Verification of Work Experience form

English Language Proficiency Requirement and GRE

• MScPT:
  • TOEFL: PBT minimum 580, IBT minimum 92
  • IELTS: minimum 7.5 overall score and 7.0+ in each section
• MScRS:
  • GRE scores are required
  • TOEFL for international students: 580 PBT, 50 TSE,
