Program Information

  • 25 months in duration
    • Academic portion: 66 weeks
    • Clinical placements: 6 weeks each for a total of 30 weeks
  • Prepares students for the Physiotherapy Competency Examination
  • Does not accept transfer applicants
  • 56 seats in total (16 seats for Nova Scotia residents, 15 seats for New Brunswick residents, 10 seats for Newfoundland & Labrador residents, 2 seats for Prince Edward Island residents, and the other 13 depending on criteria here with a max of 5 for non-residents)

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Four-year undergraduate degree
    • A three-year degree with 30 additional credits at a senior level will be considered
    • Majors in Neuroscience, Psychology, Human Movement Science, Exercise Science, Human Physiology, Health Promotion, Ergonomics or Anatomy are preferred.
  • Required courses:
    • Human Physiology (6 credits) or Human and Exercise Physiology (9 credits)
    • Biology/Cell Biology (3 credits)
    • Psychology (6 credits)
    • Human Anatomy (3 credits)
    • Physics (6 credits) or Physics (3 credits) + Biomechanics (3 credits)
    • Statistics (3 credits)
    • Social Sciences, Humanities, and Languages (6 credits)

GPA

  • Residents of Atlantic Canada: 3.0/4.0 or B
  • Non-residents of Atlantic Canada: 3.4/4.0 or B+
  • Based on last 60 credits completed

TOEFL

  • Minimum scores:
    • Internet-based (preferred): 92, with 22 in speaking
  • Minimum scores for other tests:
    • TSE: 45
    • MELAB: 90
    • IELTS: 7
    • CanTest: 4.5 average, with no band score lower than 4.0
    • CAEL: 60, with no band score lower than 50

  • 40 volunteer hours minimum in the last two years

Residency Requirements

  • Must be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
  • Residents from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, or Newfoundland & Labrador are preferred
    • At most 5 spaces available for Canadian residents outside of those provinces

Interview

  • All applicants from the Atlantic will receive an interview, with the rest based on GPA ranking, with a minimum of 112 being interviewed
    • Will take place in April, 2013
  • The interview will count for 25% of your admission score; GPA will count for the other 75%
  • Teleconference interviews are available for non-resident applicants of Atlantic Canada

    • Must be received no later than June 15, 2013
  • Two references (forms provided here)
  • If all prerequisite courses have not been completed at the time of application, proof of registration is needed to show that the courses are in the process of being completed
    • All requirements must be fulfilled by June 1, 2013
