Program Information

  • Master’s Program (MSc) - 2 years
    • Can transfer into the PhD program before completion of the 5th term (20 months)
  • Doctor’s Program (PhD) - 4 years
    • Students that entered through direct entry must complete a qualifying exam within the first year
  • 77 graduate students currently enrolled
    • 90% of students had an undergraduate average of A or A+
  • Fields of Research:
    • Genome Dynamics and Expression
    • Human Genetics
    • Intracellular Communication
    • Macromolecular Structure and Dynamics

Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Master’s Program
    • Bachelor’s degree (4 years) in biochemistry, biology, genetics, chemistry, cell biology, microbiology, or physiology
    • Students who do not have a bachelor's in one of the above disciplines can be considered if they have taken 2 upper-year biochemistry courses
  • Doctor’s Program
    • Master’s degree or equivalent
    • Exceptional applicants who have a minimum academic average of 85% can apply for direct Entry to PhD from a Bachelor's Program; the applicant must state his/her intentions in a covering letter as part of the application
    • Research experience for direct entry would be an asset, but is not a requirement.

  • International students must take a GRE in one of the following subjects: Biochemistry, Cell & Molecular Biology, Biology, or Chemistry.
