Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Master’s Program
    • Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology or related areas
    • Students who completed the bachelor’s degree in a country other than Canada are required to have an MSc degree in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology or in a related subject area
    • Required Courses
      • Introductory survey courses in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BIOL200 (3 credits) and BIOC212 (3 credits) or BIOL201 (3 credits))
      • Two advanced courses in biochemistry (BIOC311, 312 (6 credits) or equivalent)
  • Doctor’s Program
    • Master’s degree or equivalent

  • Minimum GPA: B+ during the last two years of study

GRE

  • International students require GRE General and GRE Subject (Biochemistry)
    • Minimum rank of 80%
    • TOEFL scores are required
      • Minimum paper-based – 580 / TWE 5
      • Minimum computer-based – 237 / Essay rating 5
      • Minimum internet-based – 93 / Writing 22, Speaking 22
      • Waived if language of instruction is English

Complete applications received by the early submission deadline are strongly encouraged.

SEPTEMBER 2019 Admission Deadlines

  • May 1, 2019 - Last day to submit application online (application fee must also be paid by this time)
  • May 15, 2019 - Last day to submit required application documents

-International applicants are encouraged to complete online applications and have all of the required documents submitted to the department for the early deadline to ensure adequate time to apply for a student Visa.

JANUARY ADMISSIONS

  • September 15, 2019 - Last day to submit application online (application fee must also be paid by this time)
  • October 1, 2019 - Last day to submit required application documents

Tuition 2013-2014

  • M.Sc. Students
    • Domestic fees - $$8,489.52
    • International fees - $$24,853.52
  • Ph.D. Students
    • Domestic fees - $8,489.52
    • International fees - $9,113.52

Domestic M.Sc. Students will receive a stipend of $27,124.52 and international students will receive $43,488.52. Domestic Ph.D. Students will receive $29,195.52 and international students will receive $29,819.52
