Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Master’s Program
    • Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology or related areas
    • Students who completed the bachelor’s degree in a country other than Canada are required to have an MSc degree in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology or in a related subject area
    • Required Courses
      • Introductory survey courses in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BIOL200 (3 credits) and BIOC212 (3 credits) or BIOL201 (3 credits))
      • Two advanced courses in biochemistry (BIOC311, 312 (6 credits) or equivalent)
  • Doctor’s Program
    • Master’s degree or equivalent

  • Minimum GPA: 3.3 during the last two years of study

GRE

  • International students require GRE General and GRE Subject (Biochemistry)
    • Minimum rank around 80th percentile
    • Outstanding applicants may have this requirement waived upon request
    • TOEFL scores are required
      • Minimum paper-based – 580 / TWE 5
      • Minimum computer-based – 237 / Essay rating 5
      • Minimum internet-based – 93 / Writing 22, Speaking 22
      • Waived if language of instruction is English

SEPTEMBER 2013 Admission Deadlines

-June 7, 2013 - Last day to submit application online (application fee must also be paid by this time)

-June 21, 2013 - Last day to submit required application documents (both online and hard copy items - please refer to the checklist below)

-International applicants are encouraged to complete online applications and have all of the required documents submitted to the department no later than April 5, 2013 to ensure adequate time to apply for a student Visa.
