Master of Science (M.Sc.) entry
- 2-3 years
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) with a previous Master’s Degree entry
- 4-5 years
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) with a previous undergraduate degree entry
- 4-5 years
Admission Requirements
Course and Degree Requirements
- Master’s Program
- Degree: four year Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree or an Honours Bachelor of science degree (BScH)
- Advanced laboratory experience in a biochemistry research environment e.g. summer research project, co-op work experience, a directed studies laboratory research course, or employment as a lab technician in a research environment
- Required Courses
- Organic and physical chemistry beyond the introductory level (e.g. Organic: CHEM212, 222, 302 Physical: CHEM204, 214, BIOC404)
- Introductory Biochemistry course (e.g. BIOC212)
- Introductory Biochemistry laboratory course (e.g. BIOC300D)
- at least two advanced biochemistry courses (e.g. BIOC311, 312, 450, 454)
- Recommended Courses
- Genetics (e.g. BIOL202), Physics, Microbiology (e.g. MIMM211) or Cell Biology (e.g. BIOL200, ANAT262)
- PhD Program
- Degree: a Master of Science (MSc) degree or a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree
- For a direct entry: In addition to Master’s Program requirements, research experience beyond a laboratory course level is required
- Also, you should be a co-author on a manuscript published in an internationally recognized journal

- Applicants to Master’s Program
- at least a B+ average in 3rd and 4th year-level course work, or at least 12 credits of 3rd or 4th year courses in the A- grade range in the field of intended graduate study
- Applicants to Doctor’s program from an undergraduate degree
- a first class average in each semester of your undergraduate coursework (A- or greater)

- Applicants from recognized Canadian institutions do not require GRE tests or TOEFL tests
- Applicants from international institutions must provide GRE General or Subject (Biochemistry or Chemistry) report. Test scores should be in the range of 80-100% percentile
