Program Information

  • Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biochemistry
    • A maximum of 4 or 6 years in length for either Master’s or Doctor’s program
  • Primary research groups:
    • Protein structure and function
    • Molecular Biology of membrane proteins
    • Molecular and cell biology of lipids
    • Cardiovascular disease training program
    • Molecular mechanisms of growth control
    • National high nuclear magnetic resonance centre

Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: a four-year baccalaureate degree in biochemistry or a closely related discipline is required but outstanding applicants from more distantly related disciplines are encouraged to apply

GPA

  • Minimum: 3.0 (4.0 scale) set by the Faculty of Graduate Studies. 3.3 (4.0 scale) set by the department
  • Calculation method:
    • GPA will be calculated from the most recent 2 years of course work

GRE

  • If an applicant is from an institution that is not well-known, they may be requested to write the GRE test.
  • A good performance is considered to be a score of 2000 or higher and 80% on the Subject Area Examination
  • These requirements will only be requested by the Graduate Coordinator

    • One to two pages summarizing your background in biochemistry, an explanation of why you wish to pursue graduate studies, and your future career goals
