Admission Requirements
Course and Degree Requirements
- Applicants must have one of the following degree and course requirements (required courses for any of the 3 types of candidates must have been completed within 10 years of the application deadline):
- (1) Degree: In the process of completing or has completed the last 2 years at an Ontario university. Also, an applicant must be in the process of completing or has completed a second year at a different university only if the applicant has done 4 honours courses.

- Biology (6 credits) with lab
- Chemistry (6 credits) with lab
- Physics (6 credits) with lab
- Biochemistry (3 credits) with lab
- Organic Chemistry (3 credits) with lab
- Human or Mammalian Physiology (6 credits)
- (2) Degree: In the process of completing or has completed the last year of a Bachelor’s degree (degree must be completed by August 1 of the year of admission).

GPA
- Candidates must achieve an average of 80% or greater in two undergraduate-level years by the application deadline.
- Candidates are required to have completed full course loads every year (4 courses, although having less than 5 courses per semester will result in a lower chance of being admitted). Summer courses do not count towards the course load. Thus, grades from these courses are disregarded. However, prerequisite courses completed during this time will still count as a fulfilled prerequisite.
- Minimum Grade for Interview Invite (for 2012 admission): 84.4

DAT
- The cut-off DAT scores are based on the quality of all the applicants’ academic record and their DAT scores.
- The University only takes into account the most recent DAT scores that must have been done within two years of the application deadline.
- The Canadian DAT is only offered twice during the year: February and November

- Reference letters or personal statements can be sent to the University if the applicant wishes to explain any family, medical, or other situations that might have affected their academic performance. However, this information will not necessarily will influence the University’s decision to accept or refuse a candidate.
- Applicants that have not been registered at the University of Western Ontario at any time must:
- Submit official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.
- Request that the applicant’s current University registrar’s office send to the University of Western Ontario an additional transcript of their current year’s grades by the end of the year (if applicable).
- Applicants that need to provide transcripts from institutions outside of Canada must also provide the following:
- Proof of status as a permanent resident (except for Canadian citizens)
- A formal request if name change documents are necessary
- Proof of English proficiency if the applicant’s mother tongue is not English by doing the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the Test of Written English (TWE) or equivalent

Interview
- Date: Interviews are usually held during a weekend in April each year.
- One must meet competitive levels in the DAT Reading Comprehension sectional score in combination with achieving competitive university grades in order to be invited to an interview.
- Interviews are conducted by a dentist, a senior dental student and a layperson.
- The questions are in the Canadian Dental Association (CDA) format.

- November 2010: DAT examination
- December 1 at 11:59 p.m., 2010: Application deadline and deadline for transcripts to be reached by the University
- February 2011: DAT examination
- April 2011: Interview (on a weekend)
- June 15, 2011: Deadline for the last academic year’s transcript to be received by the University
- June 20, 2011: Deadline (for graduate students) to complete all requirements for their graduate program
