Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: A bachelor's degree in the liberal arts and sciences is highly recommended as the UK dentistry school looks for individuals with a solid background in the biological and natural sciences.
  • Required Courses
    • English with emphasis on communications (2 semesters/3 quarters)
    • General Chemistry with labs (2 semesters/3 quarters)
    • Organic Chemistry with labs (2 semesters/3 quarters)
    • General Biology with labs (2 semesters/3 quarters)
    • General Physics with labs (1 semester/2 quarters)
    • Biochemistry (1 semester)
    • Microbiology (1 semester)

GPA

  • No minimum but at least a 3.0 preferred
  • Average accepted overall GPA for class of 2017: 3.46 (4.0 scale)
  • Average accepted science GPA for class of 2017: 3.36 (4.0 scale)

DAT

  • DAT can be written starting in the spring of the applicant's 3rd (junior) year or by no later than early fall of their 4th (senior) year
  • The highest set of scores will be considered
  • Canadian DAT is also acceptable
  • The class of 2017 average a 18.67 on the DAT, with an average of 18.54 on the science DAT specifically.

    • Preferably written by faculty but can be from individuals who know the applicant well

Interviews

  • Begin in September up to the holiday break in December, or until the class is full
  • Arranged after application file is complete
  • Applicants are selected for an interview at the request of the Admissions Committee
  • Selected applicants will have two 30-minute one-to-one interviews
  • The purpose of the interviews are to determine if the applicant possesses the academic qualifications and personal qualities that the College of Dentistry places great value in
