Admissions Requirements
Course and Degree Requirements
- Degree: 4
- Required Courses
- Applicants must have one of the following degree requirement, and have fulfilled the prerequisite and course load requirement
- Only prerequisites taken within ten years of the application deadline are deemed acceptable.
- (1) Degree: in the final year of, or have successfully completed, an undergraduate degree program leading to a four-year undergraduate degree at a recognized university.
- Required Courses
- 0.5 organic chemistry (with lab)
- 0.5 biochemistry
- 1.0 human or mammalian physiology
- 1.0 laboratory course in biology, chemistry and physics are also recommended
- (2) Degree: be in the final year of, or have successfully completed, a graduate degree program at a recognized university. Graduate degree candidates must complete all requirements for their graduate degree (including a successful thesis defense, if applicable) by June 20 of the year of entry. It will be the students' responsibility to assure confirmation by their Faculty of Graduate Studies no later than June 20 that all requirements for the degree have been met. No deferred admission will be granted. Applicants in this category are advised that the following courses are mandatory: at least 0.5 laboratory course in organic chemistry, at least 0.5 course in biochemistry, and 1.0 course in human or mammalian physiology. It is to their advantage to have successfully completed 1.0 laboratory course in biology, chemistry, and physics.

- Request that the applicant’s current University registrar’s office send to the University of Western Ontario an additional transcript of their current year’s grades by the end of the year (if applicable).
- Applicants that need to provide transcripts from institutions outside of Canada must also provide the following:
- Proof of status as a permanent resident (except for Canadian citizens)
- A formal request if name change documents are necessary
- Proof of English proficiency if the applicant’s mother tongue is not English by doing the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the Test of Written English (TWE) or equivalent
- Detailed syllabus for prerequisite courses
- Applicants that have not been registered at the University of Western Ontario at any time must:
- Reference letters and personal statements will not be read by members of the Admissions Committee.
- Only those regarding a situation beyond the control of the individual which affected his/her academic potential, in academic years that have the potential to be used in the admissions process,might have any influence in our admissions process (and even then, there is no guarantee that the information provided will have an effect on the entrance decision.)
