Admission Requirements

General Notes

  • There are two main classes of applicants:
    • Domestic
    • International
  • Priority is given to residents of Ontario.
    • A maximum of 10% of seats are given to out-of-province applicants.
  • 64 domestic applicants are admitted each year; a maximum of 6 spaces are allotted to out-of-province applicants.
  • 11 international applicants are admitted each year.

Criteria

Required Classes

  • Applicants must have completed three years of university education.
  • Required classes
    • Mammalian Physiology: 1 full-year course or 2 courses
    • Biochemistry : 1 full-year course or 2 courses
    • Life Sciences : 2 full-year courses or 4 courses (N.B. Organic Chemistry & Chemistry are not Life Sciences)
    • Humanities/Social Sciences : 1 full-year course or 2 courses
  • Courses taken in the academic year during the proposed year of entry will not be included in the GPA calculation.
  • Any courses completed after May 31st during the proposed year of entry will not be considered for admission.

GPA

  • Minimum GPA of 2.7 is required
  • The worst academic year will be dropped from the GPA calculation if the applicant had completed four or more years on university by May 31st and if the year with the lowest grades is not the most recent.
  • The 190 domestic applicants invited for an interview had a GPA of at least 3.7.
  • The 10 international applicants invited for an interview had a GPA of at least 3.3.

Dental Admissions Test (DAT)

  • Must be taken within two years prior to the application deadline.
  • Only the Academic Average (AA) and Perceptual Ability Test *PAT) scores are considered

Supporting Documents

  • Official Transcripts: from all previous university education.
  • Do NOT send in resumes, C.V.'s, essays or reference letters with your application.

Deadlines

These are deadlines for the 2006 application cycle, so they may not apply for the current cycle.

  • December 1st : Application deadline.
  • mid-April : Applicants will be notified via email of the admissions decisions.

Tuition

  • Out of province students pay the same fees as Ontario students.
  • Estimated annual tuition expenses (includes fees, materials and books):
    • Domestic students: $ 28,362
    • International students: $ 49,660
  • Seven awards are available for exceptional domestic applicants.

Statistics

  • Mean GPA in 2006-7 was 3.53.
  • Mean DAT scores in 2006-7 were:
    • Academic Average (AA) = 20
    • Perceptual Ability Test (PAT) = 18
  • Mean number of applicants in 2006-7 was 512.
