Course and Degree Requirements

• Degree: Students are strongly encouraged to complete a four-year degree program in any accredited university, college or community college in the United States or Canada.
• Required Courses:
  • English Composition, two semesters (6 credits)
  • Inorganic Chemistry with laboratory, two semesters (8 credits)
  • Organic Chemistry with laboratory, two semesters (8 credits)
  • Biology or Zoology with laboratory, two semesters (8 credits)
  • Physics with laboratory, two semesters (8-10 credits)

GPA and DAT

• The College has no specific requirements regarding the absolute minimal scholastic average or DAT scores.
  • Note: In some cases, applicants who have a low scholastic average will be evaluated on their performances over the last three or four semester of college. Applicants with this type of situation should have included some science courses in their schedule, with a suggested load of 14-16 hours per semester, and shown significant improvement.
• The DAT can be taken almost any day of the year through the Sylvan Learning Center.
  • Requirements for the DAT as well as instructions for registering may be obtained at the American Dental Assoication website.
• All students considered for admission must be academically prepared.
• Students must possess:
  • Intellectual capability and stability,
  • Social and perceptual skills, and
  • The physical capability to observe, communicate, and perform the motor skills adequately to satisfactorily complete the full curriculum.

Supporting Documents

• Note: The College of Dentistry participates in the American Association of Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS), and therefore, does not provide its own application form.
  • Refer to the AADSAS application online.
• Applicants will be requested to submit transcripts from each college attended to AADSAS and to the College of Dentistry.
• A separate application and processing of $50.00 is charged by the College of Dentistry.
• The College of Dentistry does not require letters of recommendation.
  • However, evaluations of a student's progress and potential by a predental adviser or committee are appreciated.

Interview

• Applicants under serious consideration will be contacted to arrange personal interviews with the Admissions Committee.
  • Interviews will not be granted at the request of applicants.
  • Applicants who are not interviewed may counsel with their predental advisers or the Admissions Committee coordinator.

Timeline

• Apply through AADSAS application packet during the spring or summer.
  • Note: Students are enrolled in the College of Dentistry each August. Candidates apply for admission approximately one year before they wish to be admitted to the College.
• Interview during the fall.
• Take the DAT so that the results are available not later than mid November. (Preferably take the DAT during the summer.)
• Note: During the early stages of the application cycle, those applicants under serious consideration will be contacted to arrange a personal interview with the Admissions Committee.
  • After December 1, of any cycle year, applicants will be contacted by phone and certified letter and informed of their acceptance to the entering class.

Tuition 2010-2011

• First year tuition and fees -- including summer semester (Nebraska resident student) - $ 36,919.59
