Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Years of coursework: 3 years minimum, majority have 4
  • Number of units: 90 semester units/135 quarter units
  • Limitations on accredited community college course work: only 70 semester or 105 quarter units will be accepted.
    • Online classes for web-based education are not accepted.
  • Required Courses
      • Inorganic/General Chemistry (with lab)- 8 credits
      • Organic Chemistry (with lab)- 6 credits
      • Physics (with lab)- 8 credits
      • Biology (with lab)- 8 credits
      • English Composition - 6 credits
      • Introductiory Psychology - 3 credits
      • Biochemistry - 3 credits
  • Other recommended courses: histology, physiology, human or comparative anatomy, social sciences, microbiology, communication, business, composition, technical writing, fine arts, philosophy, engineering, and classics
  • All courses must be passed with a grade of C or better.

DAT

  • Applicants must take their DATs no later than December 31 and within a 3-year period, including the current year applying.
  • Canadian DATs are not accepted.

Supporting Documents

  • Applicants must submit the primary application and materials through the ADEA Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS), which has its own application fees depending on the number of schools to which an applicant is applying: click here
  • Personal history form (secondary application)
  • Application fee of $ 60.00
  • Official undergraduate and high school transcripts (these must be sent directly to our office in addition to the transcripts submitted to AADSAS)
  • DAT Score Report (except for candidates requesting a transfer)
  • Substantive letters of recommendation (minimum of 3) from any objective source.

Interview

  • The Admissions Committee begins to review applications in October. Candidates are selected for interviews based on information submitted from AADSAS and the personal history form.
  • Timing of Interviews: November – March

Timeline

  • AADSAS Application Deadline: The earliest date that students may submit an application to AADSAS is June 1. Applications submitted after January 1 will not be accepted.
  • UCLA Secondary Application Deadline: Although there is no official deadline, it is highly recommended that applicants submit the secondary application within 3 weeks of receiving the instructions by email.
  • Timing of Decisions: Applicants will be notified of acceptance between December 1 and May 1 as we are on rolling admissions. Alternates may be notified later.
