Admission Requirements

General Notes

  • A Bachelor's degree is required for admission in the 4-year program. (Applicants must have received an undergraduate degree or be in the final year of study at a recognized college or university.)
  • Students who have graduated from a CEGEP must have completed 90 credits at a recognized university.
  • International students are admitted into the four-year program

Criteria

Required classes

  • Six credits of Biology, General Chemistry, and Physics
  • Three credits of Organic Chemistry

Prerequisite courses completed more that eight years ago must be repeated. University-level courses in Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology are strongly recommended.

GPA

A cGPA 3.5 out of 4 is considered competitive.

The Dental Aptitude Test (DAT)

  • Students must complete the DAT no later than the fall of the year in which they are applying.
  • Canadian students must write the Canadian DAT.
  • Candidates applying from the United States should take the American Dental Association Admission Test.
  • The Test should be retaken if it was written more than three years before the date of application.


Supporting Documents

  • Transcripts
    • Official transcripts of all their prior studies must be sent to the Documentation Center at McGill University.
  • Two (2) Reference Reports
    • Either the Confidential Reference Reports (which can be found on the website below) or 2 letters of recommendation.
  • Autobiographical Letter:
    • 3 double spaced pages
    • The first must explain your decision to apply to dentistry
    • The last two pages should outline your strengths, skills, interests and achievements.

Deadlines

  • November 15 - Application Deadline for non-Quebec residents including the non-refundable $80 fee
  • January 15th - Application Deadline for Quebec residents applying for the 4 year DMD Program including the non-refundable $80 fee
  • March 1 - Application Deadline for Quebec residents applying for the 5 year Dent-P Program including the non-refundable $60 fee

Equipment and Materials Fee

In addition to Dentistry tuition, students must purchase certain items of equipment and supplies through the Faculty of Dentistry.

  • The fee also includes general supplies in the laboratories and clinics. The estimated cost of these purchases is as follows:
    • Second Year $17,000
    • Third Year $ 7,000
    • Fourth year $ 2,000
