Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: Minimum final year of Bachelor's degree.
    • At least 1 year of college and all dental prerequisites completed in the U.S. or Canada
  • Required Courses
    • Biochemistry (3 credits)
    • Biology with Lab (6 credits)
    • General Chemistry with Lab (6 credits), or Inorganic Chemistry with Lab (6 credits)
    • Physics with Lab (6 credits)
    • Organic Chemistry with Lab (6 credits)
    • Calculus (6 credits)
    • English (6 credits)
  • Recommended Courses
    • Cell Biology
    • Microbiology
    • Statistics
  • No advanced standing, transfer students or deferred admission

GPA

  • Minimum: There is no official minimum GPA set by the University, but minimum 3.0 is recommended.
  • Average accepted GPA 2012: 3.86
  • No priority for higher GPA students
  • Calculation method:
    • GPA will be calculated by using all undergraduate courses taken.

  • Minimum scores: There are no official cut-off scores set by the University.
  • Average scores 2012:
    • Academic Average – 22
    • Total Science Average – 22
    • Perceptual Ability – 20
  • Canadian and US DAT accepted
  • DAT must have been written within 2 years of application

  • Minimum 3 letters of reference or 1 committee letter. Maximum of 4 letters of reference or 1 committee letter and 1 supplemental letter.
    • 3 letters from professors (at least two in sciences). 4th letter may be from supervisor, dentist, or other professional relation.

Interview

  • Invitation only
  • One-on-One Interviews are conducted at the School of Dental Medicine by two members of the Admissions Committee.
  • Students should plan to stay the day at the School since the day lasts from 8:45 – 3:00 (including lunch, tour and information sessions).
  • Applicants must bring:
    • High school transcript (including SAT scores, if applicable)
    • HSDM Supplemental Questionnaire
    • 2x2 passport photo
