Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the USA or Canada
  • Required Courses-Prerequisite courses should be taken at an accredited, four-year college or university within the United States or Canada
    • Biology (12 credits)
      • basic biology, genetics, embryology, molecular biology, cell biology, anatomy, physiology and biochemistry
    • Advanced Placement credits do not fulfill the Biology prerequisite
    • General (Inorganic) Chemistry – One year with lab
      • Advanced Placement credits do not fulfill the General Chemistry
    • Organic Chemistry – One year with lab
    • Physics with lab - One year with lab
    • English or Composition - One year
      • Advanced Placement credits will be accepted
    • Mathematics including calculus - One year
      • Advanced Placement credits will be accepted

GPA

  • No minimum specified, but a high enough GPA is needed to be considered a competitive applicant

DAT

  • The DAT is required of all applicants
  • DAT must have been written within 2 years of application deadline
  • Canadian DAT results are also accepted
  • For applicants who take the Canadian DAT, the official score report must be sent directly from the Canadian Dental Association (CDA) to Boston University

Supporting Documents

  • AADSAS (Associated American Dental Schools Application Service) application
  • DAT scores
  • Letters of reccomendation (submitted through AADSAS): two or three from science faculty; one from a dentist mentor, if student has shadowing experience
  • Official transcripts (submitted through AADSAS)
  • Short supplemental application and submission of an application fee (separate from the AADSAS fee)
    • Upon receipt of AADSAS application, applicants will receive a confirmation email with instructions regarding application completion, and a link to access the Boston University supplemental application
    • The supplemental application must be completed within two weeks after receipt of the email.
    • The application fee is $75 USD for U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents.
    • The application fee is $105 USD for non-U.S. citizens and non-permanent residents.

  • October 2012: Interviews being held from this month onwards, on a rolling basis
  • December 1, 2012: AADSAS application submission deadline for Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine
  • January 1, 2013: Deadline to submit supplemental material
  • December 2012-July 2013: Admission decisions are sent all throughout this period
  • Jun. 30, 2013: Deadline to submit the Health History and Physical Examination Report to the Student Health Services
  • Jul. 9, 2013: Deadline for new students to pay tuition fees
