Admission Requirements
Course and Degree Requirements
- Degree: Bachelor’s degree (any major) from an accredited university is preferred, although a minimum of 60 semester hours is necessary prior to applying. Degrees with a focus on biology or chemistry are very beneficial.
- Required Courses (A minimum grade of “B” is required. If a “C” is obtained, an upper level course in the same discipline must be taken and obtain a minimum of “B”.)

- Freshman English and Advanced Composition (6 credits)
- General Biology or Zoology (6 credits)
- Human Anatomy (Gross Anatomy or Comparative Anatomy) (3 credits)
- Inorganic Chemistry (6 credits)
- Organic Chemistry (6 credits)
- Physics I (3 credits)
- Inorganic, Organic Chemistry and Physics courses require a lab component only if it is required by your University to take a lab component
- Physics II is NOT required

- Perceptual Ability: 20.59
- DAT must have been written within 2 years of the application deadline.
- DAT must not be taken more than 3 times. Otherwise, the candidate must apply for special permission to the DAT again.
- Only the most recent DAT scores are taken into account if the test was written more than once.
- The University observes any improvements from previous DAT scores however.
- Canadian DAT scores are accepted, but the American DAT is preferred.

Supporting Documents
- American Dental Education Association - Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (ADEA AADSAS) application form (online)
- The Ohio State University Supplemental Application (online)
- This application can be completed once the candidate has been given notice from the University by e-mail.
- 2 letters of recommendation (part of the AADSAS application). One must be from a college science professor and the other from a person who knows your personal qualities very well.
- The letters must be sent electronically with the AADSAS application.
- Transcripts from any institution attended since high school must be sent to the AADSAS. Candidates accepted into the DDS program must send final official transcripts to the College of Dentistry Admissions Office.
- DAT Score Report must be faxed to the University.
- Office observation report (see below under Other Requirements for information)
- Non-Academic Experiences (Community service) form (see below under Other Requirements for information)

Other Requirements
- The candidate must have received the following required immunizations by the deadlines marked on the acceptance letter:
- Hepatitis B
- Chickenpox Titer
- TDAP (Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella)
- PPD Test (Intradermal Tuberculosis Test)
- A minimum of 20 hours of observation in a private dental practise in the U.S or Canada. Applicants must submit an Office observation report.
- The observation cannot be done with a relative or at a teaching institution.
- Community service is required. Although there is no minimum amount of hours necessary, a significant amount of hours is important. Most activities should be focused on dealing with those in need.
- International students from non-English countries must complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and obtain the following minimum scores:
- 577 (paper-based test)
- 233 (computed-based test)
- 79 (Internet-based test)

Additional Requirements for Transfer Applicants
Pre-doctoral applicants at another U.S. or Canadian school that wish to transfer to Ohio State University with advanced standing may apply as transfer applicants.
- Requirements:
- Letter from the applicant explaining why they want to transfer
- Official transcripts of all pre-dental and dental school coursework.
- Official copy of Dental Admission Test (DAT) scores.
- Official copy of the National Board Dental Exam (NBDE) Part 1 scores
- Two letters of recommendation (or more) from dental school faculty members of the original school.
- Letter from the applicant’s school Dean
- Course outlines from the applicant’s dental school.
