Admission Requirements
General Notes
- Admission to Dentistry is based on academic ability and personal qualities, as evidenced by scholastic records, aptitude tests and an interview. Because facilities for pre-clinical and clinical instruction are limited, it is necessary to restrict enrolment to applicants who are best qualified to meet the mental and physical demands of the curriculum and most likely to successfully complete the full course of study. The presentation of the minimum admission requirements will not assure acceptance.
Criteria
- Applicants require:
- one half laboratory course in Organic Chemistry
- at least one half-course in Biochemistry
- one full course (or equivalent) in Human or Mammalian Physiology
- It is to their advantage to have successfully completed one full laboratory course in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics

The Dental Aptitude Test (DAT)
- The Dental Aptitude Test administered by the Canadian Dental Association is required and will be a consideration for admission.
- Only the score of the most recent DAT completed within the TWO years prior to the application deadline of December 1 will be used.
Supporting Documents
- First year applicants who have completed professional courses or who are enrolled in courses preparing them for professional vocations other than dentistry must submit with their application a letter giving the appropriate reasons for their desire to enter Dentistry.
- Please note, reference letters and personal statements are not officially requested in the application process. Applicants may send the information to the Admissions Committee with their applications. There is, however,no guarantee that the information provided will have an effect on the entrance decision.
- NOTE: Primary consideration will be given to the best two academic years and the DAT scores. However, overall academic performance (consistency, trend), undergraduate degree, and graduate education will also be used as selection criteria.
- At the time of Application, applicants who have never been registered at The University of Western Ontario must:
- Request the Registrars of all universities, colleges and other institutions of post-secondary education that they attend or have attended, to forward to the Registrar's Office certified official transcripts of their academic record to be received by the due date for applications; These transcripts must bear the official seal of the university or college plus the signature of the appropriate officer of the university or college. (Validated translations of transcripts in languages other than English must also be sent.) Transcripts must be forwarded directly from the Registrar of each university of college attended. Copies of transcripts will not be acceptable.
- If applicable, request the Registrar of the University that they currently attend to forward to the Registrar's Office at Western a second transcript of their record at the end of the current academic year.
