Doctor of Dental Surgery Program (DDS)

Required Application Documents & Respective Deadline Dates:

1.) online application of University of Alberta for Admission, Readmission, or Internal Transfer including the non-refundable application fee of $100

  • Deadline: November 1, 2008 (for admission to Fall 2009 term)


2.) DAT results:

  • Deadline:
    • November 2008 test application submission – September 15, 2009
    • February 2009 test application submission – January 15, 2010


3.) Two Official Transcripts (for each deadline)

  • Deadlines:
    • November 15, 2008 – showing completed work to date
    • February 1, 2009 – showing Fall term grades & Winter term course registration
    • June 15, 2009 – showing current Fall/Winter final grades
  • Must be mailed to:

4.) English Language Proficiency (if required)

  • tuition: $ 17 700/year for Canadian students; $ 42 500/year for non-Canadian students
  • books: $ 1 100
  • DSA/CDA fees: $ 170
  • dental instruments: $ 625 - $ 10 000


Statistics of Applicants:

  • Of 34 seats in the program, approximately 85% are reserved for Alberta residents, 10% for out-of-province Canadians, and 5% for International (Visa) students
  • In 2007, 395 students applied, 172 of whom were considered qualified, with 34 registered students in the program after the interview process.
  • Weighted Breakdown of Admission requirements: 30% cGPA, 30% GPA of pre-requisites, 30% DAT results, & 10% interview results
  • Overall GPA: 3.60 and above (mean 3.79)
  • Pre-requisite 3.63 and above (mean 3.81)
  • DAT:
    • Reading: 17 – 30 (mean 21.65)
    • PAT: 18 – 25 (mean 21.03)
    • Manual: 15 – 30 (mean 23.62)

  • successful completion (C- or better) of a full year of English and electives and a semester of Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry, Biology, Sociology, Psychology, and Statistics
