Admission Requirements

General Notes

  • 3 categories of applicants: Regular, Special Access and Aboriginal
  • Admission will be based on both Academic Record and LSAT score
  • Extracurricular activities, community involvement, work experience and personal characteristics are considered when an applicant is on the borderline of being competitive for admission academically
  • Applications can be made online at http://secure.law.uvic.ca/application/welcome.asp

Criteria

Required Classes

  • For Regular category, all applicants must have completed at least 3 years of university in any degree

GPA

  • If the applicant has more than three full years of academic courses, some of the worst grades are discarded
  • In a four year degree, either three full year courses or six term courses, or a combination of the two, will be eliminated from the GPA calculation (to give 3 years of total credit)
  • Both old and new grades for courses that have been retaken will be used
  • GPAs of graduate courses and transferred courses are taken into account

LSAT

  • Only the best LSAT score is considered
  • LSAT accounts for 30% of the admissions weighting vs 70% for GPA
  • Score can be from up to 5 years ago

Supporting Documents

  • Transcripts from all attended post-secondary institutions
  • Letters of reference are not required, nor are they viewed by the admissions committee
  • Names of referees must provided to be contacted concerning extra-curricular activities

  • Transcripts and supporting documents, although not restricted to this deadline, should arrive shortly thereafter
  • It is recommended that applications be sent in during the fall, as students have been known to be admitted starting from November
