Admission Requirements

General Notes

  • 180 applicants admitted yearly
  • The U of T J.D. program does not allow students to specialize in a particular kind of law
  • The U of T J.D. program gives certification to practice in Canada

Criteria

Required classes

  • There are no particular classes required for entry.
  • Applicants must have successfully completed 3 years of an approved course leading to a degree no later than the end of May in the year of entry.
  • Almost all successful applicants have an undergraduate degree.

GPA

  • Successful applicants had a median cGPA of 85% (based on the best three of the four years).
  • Very few applicants admitted have a cGPA below 78%, but there is no cutoff.

LSAT

  • The last LSAT score accepted is the February test.
  • Successful applicants have a median LSAT score in the 95th percentile, few candidates with scores below the 85th percentile are admitted.

  • Letters of recommendation are not required

Other Important Information

  • The Admissions Committee may also give weight to:
    • Work Experience
    • Graduate Study
    • Outstanding accomplishments in a non-academic activity
    • Any other special circumstances worthy of mentioning

Deadlines

  • November 1st, 2007: Deadline for Application to the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC)
  • February 2nd/3rd/4th, 2008: Last possible LSAT sitting for September 2008 admission.
  • Late February, 2008: Welcome and Outreach Day for admitted students.

Tuition

  • The tuition fees for domestic students for 2006 to 2007 academic year were $17,280 (excluding incidental/ancillary fees).
