Admission Requirements

General Notes

  • Admission is offered on a competitive basis as the annual enrolment and class size is limited to 40 seats.
  • Primary consideration is given to residents of British Columbia.
  • Out of province or international students will only be considered in special circumstances or in the event that there are not enough eligible BC applicants.

Academic Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized baccalaureate degree in any field (120 credits)
  • Successful completion of the following prerequisites:
    • 1st year Human Biology (6 credits or equivalent)
    • 1st year Physics (3 credits or equivalent)
    • Chemistry 12 or higher
    • Basic Human Anatomy (3 credits or equivalent)
    • Psychology (3 credits or equivalent)
    • Statistics (3 credits or equivalent)
    • Human Physiology (6 credits or equivalent)
  • Academic standing of a minimum B+ (76%) weight GPA average in senior level courses (300 and 400 level)

Related Experience

  • Minimum of 70 hours of volunteer or paid work which includes direct contact involving interaction with persons with cognitive, emotional, or physical disabilities at no more than two facilities.

English competency

  • Applicants who have completed a degree in which English is not the primary language of instruction must present evidence of competency to pursue studies in the English language prior to being extended an offer of admission. Acceptable English language proficiency tests for applicants to the Master of Physical Therapy program are:
    • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language):
      • Minimum score of 600 (paper version); 250 (computer version).
    • MELAB - Michigan English Language Assessment Battery:
      • Minimum overall score of 81
    • IELTS - International English Language Testing Service:
      • Minimum overall band score of 6.5 is required with a minimum score of 6.0 in each component of the academic (NOT general) IELTS test

Interview

  • Applicants who meet the above minimum requirements are eligible for interview consideration (verbal communication skill, maturity and personal suitability).
  • Approximately, 80 candidates will be offered an interview.
  • Selection of interview candidates is based on the academic standing in the senior level courses.
  • The interview will comprise a verbal interview and an examination of written English proficiency. Fulfillment of the minimum requirements, however, does not guarantee an interview.
  • The Master of Physical Therapy interviews are in early March. Applicants will be advised of their results in late April.

Application Procedures

Applications will NOT be considered complete until all of the following documents are received by the School:

  • A completed Graduate Studies application form
  • Two Application Fees
    • Graduate Application Fee (Faculty of Graduate Studies):
      • Canadians (and Permanent Residents): (CDN) $90
      • International Applicants: (CDN) $150 (US $115)
      • The Faculty of Graduate Studies requires a non-refundable application fee for each department you apply to.
      • The online application accommodates credit card payment via Visa or Mastercard for this fee.
    • Supplemental Application Fee (School of Rehabilitation Sciences): (CDN) $100 for all applicants
      • Please note that the Supplemental Application Fee is made payable by mailed cheque only to the 'School of Rehabilitation Sciences'.
    • Application fees cannot be deferred and are valid for only one application year

Required Documents

  • Official Transcripts and Degree Certificates:
    • All applicants must arrange to have TWO official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended sent directly to the School's address in sealed and endorsed envelopes issued by the Registrar of the home institution.

  • Eligible English language competency test results
    • Test scores must have been taken within the last 24 months at the time of submission of your application
    • Official test scores ordered from the testing agency is required for application.

Deadline

  • The next application deadline is February 1, 2008.

Tuition

  • Minimum program fees: $11,673.29
