Admission Requirements

General

• Apply online at http://www.grad.ubc.ca/apply/online/index.asp
• GRE is not mandatory, but strongly recommended
• TOEFL is required from applicants from non-English speaking countries

Academic Requirements

MSc Audiology

• 4 year undergraduate degree with an overall average of 76% over the last 2 years
• 12 credits with at least 80% in 300 level courses or above
• Prerequisite courses:
  • Intro to Physics (energy and waves)—3 credits
  • Developmental Psychology—3 credits
  • Sensation/Perception—3 credits
  • Research methods—3 credits
  • Introduction to Linguistics—3 credits
  • Neuroanatomy—3 credits

MSc Speech-Language Pathology

• Same as above, with the following prerequistes
  • Phonology—3 credits
  • Syntax—3 credits
  • Speech Science—3 credits
  • Language Acquisition—3 credits
  • Phonetics—3 credits
  • Developmental Psychology—3 credits
  • Cognitive Psychology/Psycholinguistics—3 credits
  • Research Methods
  • Neuroanatomy
  • Neurolinguistics

PhD

• • Master’s degree typically in Audiology and Speech Sciences, Psychology, Linguistics, or a related discipline
  • A average in relevant undergraduate and graduate courses with an A average in at least 18 credits of graduate work
  • Adequate preparation for the proposed project
  • Must find a research supervisor
  • International applicants should consult the UBC Graduate Programs website for country-specific requirements.

Financial Requirements

MSc

• Full-time, domestic: $3,939.16 per year
• Part-time, domestic: $6,753.96 per year
• Full-time, international: $7,200 per year
• Part-time, international: $12,420 per year

PhD

• Full-time, domestic: $7,878.30 per year
• Full-time, international: $14,440 per year

Documents

• 2 copies of your transcript
• 3 letters of recommendation
• 500 word written letter of intent
• TOEFL scores (minimum: 600 paper-based, 250 computer-based), if required
• PhD applicants must submit a statement of their research interests and reasons for pursuing advanced study

Other

• For the Master’s in Audiology, applicants from non-English speaking countries are required to send a 5-10 minute recording of their speech.
