Program Information

Note: This page only covers the Audiology program, not the Speech Pathology program which has different requirements. Only Canadian citizens or permanent residents are currently able to study in this program.

  • M.Sc.: 21-36 consecutive months with 5 clinical externships.
  • Ph.D.: Audiology or Speech Pathology, with option of clinical education.

Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Required Courses
    • Intro to Physics (energy and waves): 3 credits
    • Development Psychology: 3 credits
    • Sensation/Perception: 3 credits
    • Research Methods: 3 credits (must be focused on research design and not statistics)
    • Intro to Linguistics: 3 credits
    • Neuroanatomy: 3 credits
  • Recommended courses
    • Brain and Behaviour, Adulthood and Aging, additional Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Counselling, Biology, Phonology, Syntax, Acoustic Phonetics, Discourse and Statistics

GPA

  • Minimum 76% cumulative average in last 2 years of undergraduate study
  • At least four 300 level courses with minimum grade of 80% or above

Supporting Documents

The following materials must be submitted in order

  • Online Application
  • Two official transcripts of all post-secondary institutions attended
  • Three letters of reference
    • M.Sc.: 1-2 academic references, max 1 reference from a research supervisor, max 1 reference from a professional supervisor.
    • Ph.D. 3 from researchers
  • Written statement (500 words)
  • TOEFL or other English proficiency exams taken in the last 24 months and a 5-10 minute recording of your speech if applicable
    • TOEFL: iBT-25 in each component for a 100 overall, PBT-600 overall, computer-250 overall
    • IELTS: 7 in each component and overall.
  • Ph.D. students need: a CV, statement of research interests, research plan, and the name of the faculty member you wish to have as a supervisor.

2018-2019 Timeline

M.Sc.

  • Deadline for application and documentation: February 1, 2019
  • Referee deadline: February 8, 2019

Ph.D.

  • Deadline for September Admission: April 1st
  • Deadline for January or May Admission: August 1st

For Ph.D students, it is preferable to contact potential supervisors prior to the online application.

Tuition

  • Numbers are for 2018-2019 academic year
    • Tuition: $4,897.86

Financial Aid

  • Four basic sources of financial aid:
    • (1) GSI awards of $4,000-5,000 for incoming students based on merit
    • (2) Research Assistantships administered by individual departments
    • (3) Need based awards administered by the Office of Awards and Financial Aid; and
    • (4) Awards from external agencies.
